Business alarm systems in Winkler and southern Manitoba that reach the right people fast
It’s for owners who want the right person told fast, with enough detail to act. We plan it on a free site walk, then install and support it ourselves.
What we install, and what it does for you
A good alarm sends clear notice to the right people, with enough detail to act, not just a siren nobody hears.
What we install
Door and window sensors, motion sensors, panels, and an app to arm, disarm, and check status from anywhere.
What it can do
- Arm and disarm from your phone, or on a schedule
- Alert more than one person, in order, so nothing gets missed
- Tie into your cameras so an alarm comes with video of what triggered it
- Connect to a monitoring service if you want one
Example
A professional office in Altona with sensitive files. Sensors on every entry, the alarm arms itself at 6 p.m., and the manager gets a photo if a door opens overnight.
What does it cost?
A commercial alarm with panel, keypad, two door sensors, two motion sensors, smoke and water detection starts at $2,150 installed. Canadian dollars, before tax, standard conditions. See all starting prices and what moves them.
Problems to know about before you buy
- False alerts train people to ignore the alarm. After a few nights of bad alerts, the real one gets missed.
- A sensor that suits a heated office may not suit a cold or dusty shop. The wrong type trips for no reason.
- A siren on its own rarely brings help. If nobody is near enough to hear it, it only scares off the timid.
- Wireless sensors run on batteries. Someone has to replace them, or a door quietly stops reporting.
- An alarm that only uses the internet can’t send anything while the internet is down. Ask whether yours has a cellular backup.
Which option is right for me?
Should I watch the alarm myself or pay for monitoring?
Alerts to your phones
Pick it if two or three people on your team will always answer, even at 3 a.m.
Professional monitoring
Pick it if nobody can promise to answer, or the building sits empty for long stretches.
What we usually recommend: Many owners start with alerts to their own phones, since monitoring can be added later without changing the alarm. Do I need alarm monitoring, or just alerts to my phone?
Wireless or wired sensors?
Wireless
Pick it for a finished office where you don’t want walls opened, or a door that is hard to reach with a cable.
Wired
Pick it for new construction or a big shop, where there are no batteries to change and steel walls don’t block the signal.
What we usually recommend: We often mix the two, wiring what is easy to reach and using wireless for the rest.
Common questions
Will an alarm work in an unheated shop through a Manitoba winter?
Yes, if the sensors are chosen for the cold. A motion sensor meant for a warm office is not always the right pick for a shop near Winkler that sits at minus 30 all January, so we choose sensor types on the site walk.
What happens to my alarm when a storm knocks out the power?
It depends on the panel’s backup power, which varies from one system to the next. Ask how long it lasts and whether you get an alert when the power drops, and we’ll go over both for your building.
Will an alarm work on a rural site with weak cell coverage?
Usually, because the alarm can send over the internet, a cellular connection, or both. On a yard outside Altona we check the signal at the building during the site walk, then pick the connection that reaches.
