A site walk is a free visit of about an hour where we walk your property with you, ask how your day runs, and tell you what we'd do. Nothing is required from you, but it helps to know your hours, who holds keys or codes, anything that's gone missing, and anything your insurer has asked for.

Why do we start with a site walk?

Because a security system that is designed from a phone call is mostly guesswork. We need to see where the doors are, where vehicles come in, what sits in the yard overnight, and what you can and can't see from the office.

There is no obligation. If what you need is small, or you already have the right gear, we will say so.

What happens during the hour?

We walk the property with you, inside and out. We look at it the way someone with bad intentions would: where would they get in, what would they take, and where would nobody notice?

We also ask how your business actually runs. Who opens up in the morning? Who comes in after hours? Do cleaners or contractors have access? Where do deliveries arrive?

At a shop in Carman, that might mean standing at the gate and asking what a stranger could reach in two minutes. At an office in Winkler, it might be more about who still has a key and which door gets propped open.

What should I have ready?

None of this is required. Each item just makes the hour more useful.

  • Your hours. When you open, when you close, and who is on site outside those times.
  • Who holds keys or codes now. A rough list is fine. Include former staff if you are not sure their key came back.
  • What has gone missing. Fuel, tools, stock, a break-in, or just a feeling that things walk away.
  • What your insurer has asked for. Some commercial policies ask for proof of cameras or access control. If you have a letter or a renewal note, bring it.
  • Any equipment you already have. Old cameras, an alarm panel, a recorder in a closet. We'll tell you what can stay.

What do you get afterward?

You get a quote that matches what we talked about on the walk. It says where each camera, sensor or door reader goes, what it is for, and what it costs.

If some parts matter more than others, we can show what to do first and what can wait. Many owners start with the gate and the main doors.

Who comes on the site walk?

Someone from our team who knows how the gear is installed and supported here. Foresight Security is the security department of SolutionsIT, a Manitoba company that has helped businesses with technology since 1987. Our own technicians do the install, so the plan from the walk is the plan they follow.

Who should be there from your side?

The person who makes the decision, and the person who knows the building best. Sometimes that is the same person. On a farm near Altona, it might be the owner and whoever runs the yard day to day.

If your insurer or a partner will want a say, it helps to involve them early. That saves a second round of questions later.
